I’ve known about the benefits of a ketogenic diet for awhile but only recently have I personally started experimenting with it.
Keto is a low carb, high fat version of paleo and has demonstrated amazing health benefits for a variety conditions including epilepsy, autism, IBS, heart disease, diabetes and more.
In simple terms, the ketogenic diet is when you trick your body into utilizing your own stored fat as its main source of energy rather than carbohydrates.
Your daily diet should comprise only 5% carbs, 25 % proteins and the remaining 70 % should consist of healthy fats.
This is where fat bombs come in!
Optimal sources of fats are fatty meats, fish, avocado, coconut oil, nuts, and seeds.
This particular recipe uses coconut oil and coconut butter as the fat source.
I have become obsessed with fat bombs as an easy and delicious snack that will literally tie me over for a few hours until my next meal.
Sometimes I’ll have one in the morning after my keto coffee if I’m feeling hungry. Most often I have one mid afternoon around 4pm when I’m usually wanting a snack.
I literally eat one and I’m good to go.
Not to mention, it’s a super healthy snack full of medium chain fatty acids (MCTs), lauric acid, and caprylic acid from coconut.
MCTs produce a whole host of health benefits including energy production, metabolism support, and weight loss.
Lauric acid and caprylic acid have powerful antimicrobial properties to help fight off fungus, pathogenic bacteria, and viruses.
The addition of wild orange essential oil adds nice flavor but also provides cleansing and detoxifying properties.
No added sugar is allowed on keto, so I use stevia, monk fruit, or erythritol. This recipe calls for stevia.
I encourage you to give it a try and get creative with your own fat bomb recipes!
